Making sea moss gel at home is relatively simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Ingredients:
1 cup dried sea moss
Water (for soaking and blending)
Instructions:
Rinse and Clean:
Rinse the dried sea moss thoroughly under cold running water to remove any sand, salt, or debris.
Soak:
Place the cleaned sea moss in a large bowl and cover it with water (add lemon or lime juice to remove sea taste). Soak it for 12-24 hours. The sea moss will expand and become soft. Be sure to change the water a couple of times during soaking.
Drain and Rinse:
After soaking, drain the sea moss and give it another rinse under cold water.
Blend:
Add the soaked sea moss to a blender. Pour in fresh water (about 2-3 cups, or enough to cover the sea moss) and blend until smooth. The consistency should be creamy and slightly thick.
Store:
Transfer the blended sea moss gel to a clean, airtight container. Store it in the refrigerator, where it will keep for up to 3-4 weeks.
Use:
Use the sea moss gel by adding it to smoothies, teas, soups, or as a thickening agent in recipes.
Note: Adjust the amount of water in the blending step to achieve your preferred gel consistency. If the gel is too thick, you can add a bit more water; if too thin, use less water or blend in more sea moss.
